Day 2
Day 2 – The Capital of Sicily
Your day begins at 9:00 AM with a half-day walking tour of Palermo, immersing you in the vibrant atmosphere of one of the city’s lively open-air markets. This bustling market, influenced by Palermo’s Arab past, resembles an eastern souk, with colorful stalls displaying fresh fish, cheeses, fruits, and vegetables. During your visit, you’ll experience the rhythm of local life and enjoy a small tasting of traditional Sicilian street food.
The tour continues through Palermo’s ancient city center, with approximately 2.5 hours dedicated to exploring its historic landmarks. Highlights include Piazza Pretoria, known for its striking fountain, and the exterior of the magnificent Palermo Cathedral, showcasing centuries of architectural styles.
The tour concludes at the iconic Four Corners (Quattro Canti), leaving your afternoon free to explore Palermo at your leisure.
For those looking to delve deeper into Sicilian culture, consider an optional Palermo Cooking Class in the evening. Starting at 5:00 PM, this hands-on experience allows you to prepare a traditional meal and dine with locals, offering a perfect blend of food and conviviality.
Day 3
Day 3 – Arab-Norman Highlights: Cefalù and Monreale
Today’s journey begins with a drive to Cefalù, a stunning coastal town on Sicily’s northern shore, renowned for its medieval charm and breathtaking scenery. Nestled at the base of a dramatic cliff, Cefalù’s historic center is largely pedestrianized, making it perfect for exploration on foot.
The town is centered around the magnificent Cathedral of Cefalù, commissioned by Roger II in 1131. This medieval masterpiece features remarkable mosaics and a serene cloister, making it one of Sicily’s most significant monuments. As you stroll through Cefalù, you’ll encounter highlights like:
- The Seafront (Lungomare Giuseppe Giardina): A relaxing walk with views of the village and its fortress.
- The Medieval Washhouse: A charming public washhouse with basins fed by the Cefalino River, tied to a local legend.
- Porta Pescara: A picturesque sea-facing gateway, especially magical at sunset.
- Capo Marchiafava Bastion: A remnant of the town’s ancient fortifications offering stunning coastal views.
- Corso Ruggero and the Cathedral Square: The heart of the town, where history and culture converge.
You’ll have time at leisure to explore these sights independently, taking in the rich history and relaxed ambiance of Cefalù.
In the afternoon, the tour continues to Monreale, home to one of the finest examples of Arab-Norman art and architecture: the Duomo of Monreale. Commissioned by William II in 1174, this cathedral’s interior is adorned with stunning golden mosaics depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments, showcasing the pinnacle of this artistic style.
After visiting Monreale, the day concludes with a return to Palermo, leaving you with vivid memories of these two remarkable destinations.
Day 4
Day 4 – Marsala and Erice: Salt, Olive Oil, and Wine Tasting
Begin your day with a scenic journey to Erice, a medieval hilltop town steeped in history and myth. Once a significant religious site dedicated to the goddess Venus, Erice offers ancient streets, stunning views, and charming pastry shops renowned for marzipan and pistachio delicacies. Highlights include the Pepoli Castle, built by the Arabs, and the Venus Castle, a Norman fortress constructed on the site of the ancient Temple of Venus, said to be founded by Aeneas.
For lunch, visit a local Sicilian farmhouse specializing in olive oil production. Enjoy a tasting of mixed local products while savoring the authentic flavors of the region.
In the afternoon, travel along the picturesque Salt Way Road, where the historic saltpans continue to produce sea salt using techniques dating back to the Phoenicians. This unique landscape features windmills, terracotta-covered salt piles, and stunning views of the lagoon, offering a glimpse into a centuries-old tradition.
The journey continues to Marsala, named after the Arabic “Marsa Allah,” or “Harbor of God.” This charming town is famous for its Marsala wine, Sicily’s oldest DOC wine, known for its rich flavor and 18% alcohol content.
After a day of historical exploration, breathtaking landscapes, and indulgent tastings, return to Palermo, bringing with you the flavors and stories of western Sicily.
Day 5
Day 5 – From Palermo to Siracusa: Valley of the Temples and Roman Villa
Your day begins at 8:00 AM with a drive through Sicily’s scenic interior to Agrigento, home to the spectacular Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site. During a two-hour guided walking tour, explore the awe-inspiring ancient structures, including the Temples of Hera, Concordia, Hercules, and Zeus.
Agrigento, historically known as Akragas, was founded in 582 B.C. by Rhodian-Cretan colonists. The city quickly rose to prominence under rulers like Phalarides and Theron, becoming a center of cultural and military strength. Legend ties its origins to Daedalus and Icarus, adding a mythological charm to its rich history.
In the afternoon, continue to Piazza Armerina for an independent visit to the renowned Roman Villa of Casale, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Built in the 4th century AD, this luxurious Roman villa was rediscovered in the 20th century and is celebrated for its stunning 3,500 square meters of mosaics, depicting vivid scenes of Roman life. As you explore the villa, informative boards in each room provide insights into its history and artistry.
The day concludes with your arrival in Siracusa, where you’ll unwind and prepare for the next chapter of your Sicilian journey.
Day 6
Day 6 – The Best of Siracusa

These landmarks highlight Siracusa’s historical significance and showcase its stunning natural and architectural beauty.
Siracusa’s unique geography blends dramatic cliffs, serene beaches, and lush river valleys with ancient archaeological wonders, creating a landscape that is both captivating and historically rich.

This ancient recipe, brought to Sicily by Spanish conquistadors, has been preserved through the centuries. Modica’s chocolate, with its distinctive texture and rich flavor, offers a delicious link to history.
The tour continues to Noto, a masterpiece of Sicilian Baroque and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Once the capital of the Val di Noto during the Arab period, Noto was completely rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1693. The new city, constructed closer to the Ionian Sea, features honey-colored tufa stone buildings that line its main street, including exquisite churches and noble palaces, making it one of Sicily’s most beautiful towns.

Next, stop at Castiglione di Sicilia, a medieval village overlooking the Alcantara Valley, and travel along Etna’s wine roads to a local winery for a relaxing lunch and wine tasting.
Continue to the 2002 lava flow, reached via a scenic jeep ride through forests, and visit the Ragabo Pine Forest, where you’ll explore the Cave of Corruccio, a lava-formed grotto.
