Day 3 – Madonie Natural Park Delights

After breakfast, depart at 8:30 AM for the Madonie Mountains, where you’ll immerse yourself in the beauty of the Sicilian countryside and its enduring traditions.

Begin at a local Dairy Farm on the slopes of Madonie Park, where you’ll witness the cheese-making process, from cooking milk to crafting various types of cheese with unique maturation levels. End the experience by enjoying freshly made Ricotta alongside local cheeses, bread, and other regional delicacies.

Next, travel to Castelbuono, a charming medieval village centered around the impressive Ventimiglia Castle, near the historic Byzantine hamlet of Ypsigro. Stroll its narrow streets, reminiscent of a fairytale, and take an hour for an independent exploration. Stop at a local pastry shop renowned for its world-famous Panettone, made with premium Sicilian ingredients like pistachios, oranges, Modica chocolate, and almonds.

In the afternoon, meet a Manna Expert to discover the ancient art of harvesting manna, the solidified sugary sap of ash trees. Learn about this Slow Food Presidium product, considered the “nectar of the gods,” and its uses in traditional medicine, cooking, and cultural rituals. Witness a demonstration of how manna is extracted and appreciate its importance as the “white gold” of the Madonie region.

Conclude this enriching day with a return drive to Palermo, carrying memories of authentic Sicilian traditions.

Day 4 – From Palermo to the Country Estate: Erice and Marsala

After breakfast, depart at 8:30 AM for Erice, a medieval hilltop town once an Elymian religious center dedicated to the goddess Venus. Stroll its ancient streets, lined with Gothic and Baroque architecture, and visit renowned pastry shops to sample marzipan candies, almond, and pistachio pastries. Take time for an independent walk through the town center and enjoy the enchanting atmosphere.

For lunch, savor a traditional meal at a local farmhouse, indulging in authentic Sicilian flavors.

In the afternoon, travel to Marsala, whose name derives from the Arabic “Marsa Allah” (Harbor of God). Famous worldwide for its Marsala Wine, this DOC wine boasts an alcohol content of about 18% and a rich history rooted in the region’s winemaking traditions. Explore the charming city center before driving along the Salt Way Road, a scenic route dotted with historic saltpans. These ancient basins, still producing sea salt using Phoenician methods, create a mesmerizing landscape of sparkling water, terracotta-topped salt mounds, and restored windmills.

The day concludes with a drive to the Agrigento district, where you’ll settle into a tranquil local estate for your overnight stay.

Day 5 – Olive Oil Experience and UNESCO Site

Enjoy a leisurely morning with breakfast at your local estate before embarking on a unique olive oil experience. Stroll through picturesque olive groves, tour a working olive mill, and learn about the production of organic extra virgin olive oil. Savor the distinct aromas and flavors during a guided tasting session, highlighting olive oil’s health benefits and culinary versatility. A delightful lunch at the estate, featuring olive oil tastings, adds to this sensory journey.

In the afternoon, visit Agrigento for a guided tour of the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This iconic archaeological area includes the Temples of Hera, Concordia, Hercules, and Zeus, showcasing the grandeur of ancient Akragas, founded in 582 B.C. Known as “the most beautiful of mortal cities,” Agrigento flourished under rulers like Phalarides and Theron, becoming a hub for art and philosophy, with figures like Empedocles calling it home.

After marveling at these timeless monuments, return to your estate for a relaxing evening.

Day 6 – From Agrigento to Siracusa: Roman Villa and Winery

After breakfast, depart at 9:00 AM for Piazza Armerina to visit the Roman Villa of Casale, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its spectacular mosaics. Built in the 4th century AD, this luxurious villa features 3,500 square meters of intricately detailed mosaics depicting mythological scenes, daily life, and Homeric adventures. Likely the residence of a Roman elite, the villa was rediscovered in the 20th century after being buried for centuries. Explore independently, with informative boards in each room to guide your visit.

Later, head to a local winery and farmhouse nestled in the countryside. Enjoy a delicious lunch paired with wine tastings, highlighting the flavors of the region’s vineyards and culinary traditions.

In the afternoon, continue your journey to Siracusa, where your exploration of Sicily will continue.

Day 7 – Siracusa Cooking Experience with Lunch

After breakfast, make your way to the meeting point in Ortigia to meet a local house-chef for a hands-on Sicilian culinary experience. Begin with a stroll through the local market, selecting fresh, seasonal ingredients guided by the chef’s expertise.

Return to a private cooking school to prepare traditional Sicilian dishes. Learn to make a starter such as Caponata, a main course like homemade pasta or arancine, and finish with a local dessert such as cannoli, biancomangiare, granita, or almond cookies, accompanied by Moscato di Siracusa or homemade limoncello. The menu will be determined by the ingredients available at the market that day.

Enjoy the meal you’ve prepared during a convivial lunch. The rest of the day is free to explore Siracusa at your leisure.

Day 8 – Relax in Siracusa

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and spend the day at leisure, exploring the city at your own pace. Siracusa, the cultural capital of Magna Grecia, offers a rich variety of attractions. From its jagged cliffs to serene beaches, and its blend of ancient archaeological treasures and natural beauty, the city promises something for everyone. Wander through the historic streets of Ortigia Island or explore the mainland’s charming corners.

  • A full-day tour to Noto and Marzamemi, where you can explore the Baroque beauty of Noto and the picturesque charm of the fishing village Marzamemi.
  • A half-day sailing experience to enjoy Siracusa’s stunning coastline from the water.

Relax and soak in the unique blend of history, nature, and Mediterranean charm that Siracusa has to offer.

Day 9 – From Siracusa to Taormina: Ragusa Ibla, Modica’s Aztec Chocolate, and Scacce

After breakfast, depart for Ragusa Ibla, a UNESCO-listed Baroque treasure. Spend time exploring independently, wandering through its charming streets, admiring its 18th-century churches, gardens, and beautifully preserved architecture.

For lunch, enjoy the regional specialty Scacce in a typical trattoria. These rustic stuffed focaccias feature thin layers of dough folded around flavorful fillings, such as tomato and aged caciocavallo cheese, tomato and fried aubergine with basil, or tomato with onions—a true taste of Ragusa’s culinary heritage.

In the afternoon, visit Modica, renowned for its unique Aztec-style chocolate. Introduced to Sicily during Spanish rule, this chocolate is made with an ancient recipe that preserves its granular texture and rich flavor. Sample the chocolate, often infused with chili, cinnamon, or vanilla, and experience a piece of history in every bite.

The day concludes with a drive to Taormina, Sicily’s world-famous resort town, where you can unwind and prepare for the next chapter of your journey.

Day 10 – Etna and Wine: Off-Road Adventure and Winery

After breakfast, embark on an off-road adventure to Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano. The journey begins with a visit to the Alcantara Gorges, a spectacular canyon formed by prehistoric volcanic eruptions and shaped by the Alcantara River. The vertical basalt cliffs, reaching up to 30 meters, offer an impressive glimpse into Sicily’s geological past.

Continue along one of Sicily’s wine roads, crossing vast expanses of Etna D.O.C. vineyards. Arrive at a local winery nestled in nature, where you’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch paired with excellent local wines, showcasing the unique flavors of the volcanic terroir.

Next, travel by jeep to the 2002 lava flow, accessible via rugged dirt roads through chestnut and oak forests. This eruption, one of the most explosive in recent history, has left a dramatic mark on the landscape.

The journey culminates at Piano Provenzana (1,800 meters above sea level), a ski resort and the site of the 2002 eruption. Explore the ruins of Hotel Le Betulle, destroyed by molten lava, and take in the striking volcanic scenery.

In the afternoon, return to Taormina, rounding out a day filled with nature, history, and culinary delights.

Day 11 – Relax in Taormina

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and spend the day at your leisure exploring Taormina, Sicily’s most beloved resort town. Perched on a coastal bluff with stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Taormina is a blend of ancient charm and vibrant culture. Wander its narrow streets lined with specialty shops, cafés, and restaurants, or simply take in the beauty of this historic town, which dates back to 395 BC. Its roots trace back to Giardini-Naxos, Sicily’s oldest Greek colony, established in 735 BC.

The 8-day tour exceeded all expectations. The guides were always 15 minutes early, professional, knowledgeable, and felt like traveling with friends. The hotels were fantastic, and the vehicles were comfortable and new. Josephine Cilaria and Raymond Amato were outstanding guides, and Sergio and Valerie were also fantastic. The company lunch is a must! My family and I did a Disney Tour in Italy a few years ago, but this Sicily Tour was managed even better.

My wife and I booked an 8-day private tour through Vincenzo at Tour of Sicily based on positive reviews we had read, and we have no regrets. From the start, communication with the company was prompt and efficient. Minor adjustments to their package were seamlessly and efficiently accommodated. Throughout the 8-day tour, starting in Palermo and ending in Taormina, our drivers/guides were invariably punctual, friendly, and highly knowledgeable. The vehicles were clean and comfortable. At each site, we were pointed in the right direction and provided with all the necessary information. The hotels booked for us were well-chosen and top-notch. We didn’t have to worry about a thing and could simply sit back and enjoy the tour. This is undoubtedly the way to travel in Sicily!

We traveled to Sicily on a journey to find my grandfather’s homeland. After some research, we had the name and address of an aunt who remained in San Cataldo, Caltanissetta. Arrangements were made for an English-speaking driver to take four of us to this small town in the heart of Sicily. Vincenzo was our guide for the day and did a fantastic job taking us to city hall to locate records about my aunt and then to the street where she lived. We discovered details about her life that we had never known. Vincenzo was our guide, translator, and friend during an adventure we’ll never forget. Thank you, Vincenzo!
