Day 1 – Welcome to Sicily!

Upon arrival at Palermo Falcone-Borsellino Airport, ensure your phone or Wi-Fi is turned on and proceed through Passport Control. After collecting your luggage in the customs area, meet your Italian-speaking driver, who will be waiting in the arrivals area with a sign displaying your name.

Important Notes:

  • Missed Flight Connection: Contact the local emergency number immediately to reschedule your transfer. Failure to do so will result in a loss of service without refund.
  • Flight Delay: Notify the emergency number as soon as possible to adjust your pickup time.
  • Lost or Missing Luggage: Inform the driver through the customs police office, as they cannot enter the customs area.

Your driver will wait up to 45 minutes after landing. If additional time is required, a surcharge of €30 per hour applies.

Once ready, transfer to your hotel and begin your Sicilian journey. Welcome to the beautiful island of Sicily!

Day 2 – Palermo and Monreale

Begin your day with a visit to Monreale, where you’ll explore the magnificent Dome, a pinnacle of Arab-Norman art and architecture. Commissioned in 1174 by William II, its golden mosaics depict scenes from the Old and New Testaments, showcasing unparalleled craftsmanship.

Return to Palermo for a walking tour of the city center. Visit one of the vibrant open-air markets—either Capo or Ballarò—where you’ll experience the lively atmosphere and enjoy a tasting of local street food. Continue your exploration at the Four Corners (Quattro Canti), a crossroads of baroque palaces from the Spanish era, and admire the striking Piazza Pretoria and Via Maqueda.

The tour concludes at Piazza Verdi, home to the iconic Massimo Opera Theatre. You can transfer back to your hotel independently and enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

For an enriching evening experience, consider the optional Cooking Class and dinner with locals, offering an intimate taste of Sicilian culinary traditions.

Day 3 – Marsala and Erice: Salt, Olive Oil, and Wine Tasting

Start your day with a visit to the medieval town of Erice, perched atop a hill and steeped in history as a religious site for the goddess Venus. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, exploring charming shops and sampling local sweets such as marzipan, almond pastries, and pistachio delicacies. Enjoy an independent walk in the city center, including a recommended stop at a local pastry shop.

Next, head to a Sicilian olive oil producer farmhouse for a light lunch featuring mixed local products and a guided olive oil tasting, immersing yourself in the flavors of the region.

In the afternoon, travel along the picturesque Salt Way Road, where traditional Phoenician salt production methods are still preserved. Admire the stunning saltpans, dotted with terracotta-topped salt mounds and historic windmills, creating a unique landscape.

Continue to Marsala, known as “Marsa Allah” or the “Harbor of God.” Famous for its Marsala Wine, Sicily’s oldest DOC wine, the town offers a taste of its rich vinicultural heritage, with wines boasting an alcohol content of around 18%.

Conclude the day with a return to Palermo, carrying memories of this rich cultural and culinary journey.

Day 4 – From Palermo to Taormina: Valley of the Temples and Roman Villa

Begin your journey with a drive through Sicily’s scenic interior to Agrigento, where you’ll explore the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During a two-hour guided walking tour, visit the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Hercules, and the Temple of Zeus. Founded in 582 B.C. by Rhodian-Cretan colonists, Agrigento—once known as Akragas—was a thriving city of art and military strength, famously described by Pindar as “the most beautiful of mortal cities.”

In the afternoon, travel to Piazza Armerina to independently explore the Roman Villa of Casale, another UNESCO site. Built in the 4th century AD, this luxurious villa features over 3,500 square meters of mosaics depicting mythological scenes, daily life, and more. Rediscovered in the 20th century, the villa offers a remarkable glimpse into ancient Roman opulence, with information boards in every room enhancing your visit.

Conclude your day with a drive to Taormina, Sicily’s renowned resort town, where you’ll settle in for the next chapter of your journey.

Day 5 – Mt. Etna and Wine Experience

Start your day at 8:30 AM with a WD4X4 Jeep adventure to explore the majestic Mount Etna, one of the highest and most active volcanoes in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013.

Focus on the quieter north side of Etna, known for its vast pine forests, scenic trails, and breathtaking landscapes. Along the way to Piano Provenzana (1,800 meters above sea level), pass through charming villages and diverse landscapes. At Piano Provenzana, view the partially lava-covered ex-Betulle hotel, a remnant of the powerful 2002 eruption.

Discover the unique combination of green pine forests, dark volcanic stones, and vibrant natural colors that define this area. Visit the 2002 lava front, explore a lava cave, and enjoy a moderate hike to see side craters with their distinctive “buttonhole” cones.

For lunch, savor a meal at a local winery, paired with tastings of exceptional wines from the Etna region.

In the afternoon, return to your hotel in Taormina, concluding a day filled with nature, adventure, and culinary delights.

Day 6 – Relax in Taormina

Spend the day at leisure, exploring the charming resort town of Taormina at your own pace. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, Taormina is beloved for its ancient narrow streets filled with boutique shops, cafés, and restaurants. Its vibrant history dates back to 395 BC when it was settled by residents of nearby Giardini-Naxos, Sicily’s oldest Greek colony established in 735 BC.

For additional experiences, consider these optional add-ons:

  • Cooking Class with Lunch (half-day AM): Learn to prepare traditional Sicilian dishes.
  • Boat Tour Experience (half-day): Explore Taormina’s coastline by sea.
  • Godfather Village Tour (half-day): Visit iconic locations in Savoca and Forza d’Agrò.
  • Godfather Tour (half-day): Explore Castello degli Schiavi, featured in the famous film series.
  • Taormina Walking Tour (half-day): Guided visit to the Greek-Roman Theatre, offering stunning panoramic views.

Whether you choose to relax or immerse yourself in one of these experiences, Taormina’s timeless beauty will captivate you.

Day 7 – Arrivederci!

Enjoy your final morning in Taormina before saying goodbye to Sicily. Your Italian-speaking driver will pick you up at your hotel and transfer you to Catania Airport for your departure.

Take with you the unforgettable memories of Sicily’s beauty, history, and culture. Arrivederci! Safe travels!

Four of us had a wonderful week (not long enough!) in Sicily with Tour of Sicily. Each day, an English-speaking driver picked us up from our hotel and took us on fantastic day trips to various fascinating sites on this incredible island. The drivers were friendly, helpful, and full of knowledge about all the places we visited. They went out of their way to ensure we had a great time—special thanks to Alfeo, Sebastian, Frank, and of course Vincenzo! At some sites, we had private guides who provided in-depth historical insights. Elisabetta in Palermo was absolutely exceptional! We highly recommend Tour of Sicily to organize your vacation on this magical island.

This was one of the highlights of our 2.5 months in Italy. I’m not usually one to take tours, but with two small children, it seemed like the easiest option—and it was truly exceptional. Our driver, Toni, was very knowledgeable, wonderful with the kids, and an absolute pleasure to be around. We loved learning to make pizza, visiting the salt flats, and touring a winery. Without the tour, we would have been limited to the famous ruins and missed out on these unique experiences. I highly recommend this tour—Sicily and the Sicilians we met were incredibly warm and welcoming.

From August 19th to 26th, we went on a tour of Sicily, starting in Palermo and Monreale. Palermo, with its stunning Cathedral, the Piazza dei Quattro Canti, and all the other monuments we visited, beautifully described by our skilled guide, left us with unforgettable memories. Then, we spent half a day in Monreale to admire the church with 7,000 square meters of gold mosaics. Truly unique. A must-visit.
